JSConf US 2011 will be held in the epic Portland Art Museum on May 2nd and May 3rd. Yes - we are dragging the craziest conference ever westward AND bring it to culture, art, sophistication. What better place to house a conference themed around the artistic 8-bit excellence of a 1985 Apple II game? From rebels to pirates to wagoneers - JSConf never stops and this year we have more than a couple rivers to ford that will make your day. Come ready, come prepared and most importantly come with a laptop.
All the legendary luxury you have come to expect from JSConf and most importantly the leopard-print robes, we found a Kimpton property to stop your wagons - The Hotel Vintage Plaza. Not just that, but we are happy to present room rates starting at an all-time JSConf low of $145/night. These rooms will book up as there is limited space available so reserve now online or call 1-800-243-0555 and use the code "JSConf". Taking a cue from JSConf EU, the conference hotel is a short walk (~8 minutes) from the conference venue. Portland is an awesome city, so our recommendation is to take the long way to and from the conference - trust us, you will enjoy it. We will be posting places to visit and things to do here, so check back often.
On the significant other track, everything is included so there is no reason not to register today!

The Zappos Family of Companies, a subsidiary of Amazon.com, is a leader in online apparel and footwear sales by striving to provide shoppers the best possible service and selection. We carry millions of products from over 1000 footwear and apparel brands. Established in 1999, we are currently located in Las Vegas, NV, Shepherdsville, KY, and with a brand-spanking new extension software development shop, we're back in our "hometown," San Francisco, CA. There are approximately 2,500 Zapponians, but continual growth makes that number ever-increasing.
We've been asked by a lot of people how we've grown so quickly, and the answer is actually really simple...we've aligned the entire organization around one mission: to provide the best customer service possible. Internally, we call this our WOW philosophy.
And, we believe that it's our unique, "fun and a little weird" culture that drives the WOW. In January 2011, Zappos earned #6 on the 2010 Fortune: 100 Best Companies to Work For List, and our sales exceed 1 billion dollars a year. We think we might be on to something here...

Not only are we the easiest way to sell stuff online via a beautiful, customizable shop, but we're also the easiest e-commerce platform to integrate with and build stuff on top of.
Shopify prides itself on concentrating on the 80% of what every shop owner needs, and does a really, really good job of it.
Here's where you come in: there's still 20% left that some merchants need - services like product recommendation engines, in-browser chat, SalesForce and Facebook integration, on demand tshirt printing, an Arduino thing that lights up every time a sale happens, etc. The list is endless. Make us a thing that lets you take a picture of a thing, add it to your store, and post on Craigslist. Awesome.
Last year we watched about $100 million dollars of stuff sold on Shopify. There is a ton of room here and we want to help you make cool stuff for our merchants and get into http://apps.shopify.com
Check out http://shopify.com/partners - we have a Node.js adapter and a JSON API.

The IE team loves HTML5 so much, we launched Dev Unplugged: a contest to push the limits of modern browsers without the use of plug-ins. Developers can choose to either create a Gaming app or a Music app for the chance to win over $40k in prizes. The Grand Prize is $9k in cash and a fully-loaded trip to attend the Future of Web Apps in Las Vegas! The submission deadline is May 8th, so don’t wait to show us what you can do!
